About this course

This course is for qualified and experienced assessors looking to progress into a Quality Assurance role.

If you are responsible for quality checking qualifications to ensure they meet Awarding Organisation standards, then the IQA qualification (Agored Cymru Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment) is for you.

Our course will explore the importance of effective quality assurance. We will help you understand your role as an IQA, your responsibilities in terms of Awarding Organisations and the law. We will help you develop softer skills to develop and support assessors and their assessment practice.

You will attend 4 online workshops, complete 2 assignments and work with our Learning Advisor to carry out IQA activity working with at least 2 assessors in your own centre.

If you don’t have access to 2 assessors, you can complete the knowledge unit only to achieve the ” Level 4 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of IQA of Assessment” (workshops and assignments only)

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

Have an understanding of the principles of IQA and how to uphold them in practice
Plan quality assurance samples based on risk
Use a range of techniques for sampling quality of assessment
Ensure continuous improvement of assessment through supporting assessors, giving feedback, holding standardisation meetings
Ensure legal and good practice of quality assurance that adheres to awarding body and legislative requirements

Who?

You must be a qualified assessor (with the minimum of Level 3 Award in Principles and Practices of Assessment); have access 2 assessors and an internal countersigner.

The whole course will last approximately 6-12 months, as you actually have to carry out the role of an IQA. This includes planning, carrying out quality assurance samples on at least 2 assessors, observations and getting learner feedback. We work at a pace to suit you.

This course can be completed in bilingually (workshops are in English, assignments and mentoring can be done in Welsh)

Following on from this course then can then obtain the Lead IQA qualification.
